Abstract

Railway infrastructure played a significant role in the economic, spatial, and social development of Europe, while stations built after 1880 in Serbia today represent an important part of its architectural and cultural heritage. With the ongoing decline in railway transport, many stations are being abandoned and deteriorating, which highlights the need to examine opportunities for their revitalization and adaptive reuse. This paper analyzes their architectural value, their position within the urban structure, and their spatial capacities, together with a comparative overview of successfully implemented examples of adaptive reuse in European countries, with the aim of identifying their potential for future use.
