Abstract

Runoff modelling in karst areas represents a specific challenge, due to inherent complexity and uncertainty of underground flow paths. Utilization of physical relationships to describe the individual components of the runoff requires a much more detailed understanding of the conditions in the basin. However, the application of such models, with an acceptable level of complexity, can provide a reliable model that can be used for predictive purposes, even when some structural changes are expected in the basin, as in the case of the construction of objects that influence water balance (hydropower plants, dams, reservoirs, etc.). Example of application of developed physically based, semi-distributed hydrological model at the Trebišnjica river basin is presented in this paper.
