Contact mechanics plays a central role in many engineering applications and remains a challenging topic in numerical simulation due to the presence of strong nonlinearities. This paper presents a review of contact formulations developed within the framework of isogeometric analysis (IGA). After outlining classical finite element contact approaches and their limitations, the fundamental concepts of B-splines and NURBS are introduced, followed by a brief overview of the application of IGA in structural mechanics. Recent advances in isogeometric contact formulations are then reviewed, demonstrating that IGA-based contact methods can achieve improved accuracy, robustness, and computational efficiency compared to conventional finite element techniques.
