The city of Niš, Serbia, has been an industrial production hub since the liberation from Ottoman rule and the construction of the railway infrastructure at the end of the 19th century. Following the aftermath of World War II, the city of Niš experienced an industrial bloom – redefining the urban landscape with numerous industrial giants scattered all across the city. After the heavy wave of deindustrialization at the end of the 20th century, many facilities from the socialist period were left abandoned, with troubling narratives about their cultural and historical values, legitimacy, and the right to exist within the urban network. This paper explores the values of socialist industrial heritage sites in a post-socialist city of Niš.
