Abstract

Modern cartography and geoinformatics are increasingly embracing immersive technologies, which require specific adaptations for application in these fields. Augmented reality (AR) is one such technology that can provide a high degree of adaptability in order to support the transfer of information and knowledge through maps. This paper analyzes trends in the application of technologies and methods used in the development of various systems for displaying augmented reality in cartography. A method for expanding the content and functionality of analog maps using augmented reality technology is described, enabling the display of additional information while simultaneously providing new interactive capabilities.
