This paper examines the historical evolution of computer-aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM) software in architecture, civil engineering, and geodesy. The development of digital design technologies is analyzed through several key phases, from the early experimental CAD systems of the 1960s and 1970s to the expansion of personal CAD platforms in the 1980s and the emergence of object-oriented modeling approaches in the 1990s. Particular attention is given to the widespread adoption of BIM during the 2000s and the recent integration of cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and digital twin technologies.
