There are numerous membrane-covered sports facilities in Niš. They have become popular over the last two decades due to their low cost and rapid construction. However, they are known to provide poor indoor thermal conditions, and methods for improving their performance are still being investigated. This research forms part of that effort. A typical membrane-covered facility, the physical education hall of Ivan Goran Kovačić School in Niš, was selected for analysis. Several thermal parameters were measured during a hot summer day. The results confirmed some findings reported in previous research, but also contradicted certain expectations. The conclusions of this study will be used to propose improved thermal solutions for membrane-covered sports facilities.
This research was supported by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, Grant No. 7363, Improvement of functional, energetic, lightening and structural characteristics of closed and semi closed halls covered by structural textile membranes - BALLOON-HALL-Optima.
