This paper provides an overview of the authors’ research on the free vibration analysis of circular cylindrical shells using the Dynamic stiffness method. Exact frequency-dependent dynamic stiffness matrices, derived from Flügge shell theory and its shear-deformable extension, enable highly accurate prediction of modal properties without the need for discretization. The review summarizes the main theoretical contributions from the authors’ previous work and presents parametric studies, offering a unified perspective on DSM applications to shell-like structures and outlining directions for future research.
